Boulia

Day 9 & 10

Today it’s off to our last stop before crossing into the Northern Territory.  Further west some 360km along the Kennedy Development road, Boulia is (for my part) best known as the home of the Min Min lights.  A natural or supernatural or extra-terrestrial phenomena that ??? the creation of a museum dedicated to the lights.

The Kennedy Highway
About half way between Winton and Boulia we came across a quirky little pub in the middle of nowhere.  The publican told us that the area around Middleton has been a location for many films.

Jan, Mike Col enjoy a cold one at the Middleton Pub

He also recommended stopping at the Georgina Diamantina Catchment lookout where rare formations can be experienced.

Upon arrive we set camp at the Boulia van park, then crossed the Burke River into town for dinner at the pub.  Camel burgers were on the menu.

The following morning, Col rescues a visitor stuck in our insect screen.

Thankyou, Your Welcome
We visited the min min museum only to discover that the entire town was closed for the morning due to maintenance to the power by Ergon.   We returned later in the day but weren’t allowed to photograph anything.  I think that alien technology was being employed.

After a camp cooked meal, sundowners and quick(sic) game of 500, the day drew to a close.

Camp Cooks

Minor change in plans.

A flooded Diamantina River south of Birdsville is preventing us from traversing the Birdsville Track.  All roads between Queensland and South Australia are closed to all traffic.

The expedition will now head west from Boulia across The Great Central Highway to Alice spring.
Then through Oodnadatta to Maree SA.
