Day 17
This morning we were woken around
5:30 by a noisy tag-a-long tour who were setting off early heading west. I have no idea why they were up at 5:30 as
they didn’t piss off until 8. As it
was, because we were up, we packed up early and headed off to William
Creek. We had planned to lunch at the
historic Algebuckina Bridge but as we were there around 10am, a roadside cup of
tea was all that was required.

| Colin at Algebuckina Bridge |
The Oodnadatta Track is littered
with remnants of the Old Ghan Railway.
It seems that every few miles we pass a railway siding, water tower or
station.

| Peak Siding Ruins |
We ended up stopping at Duff
Creek Crossing for lunch. Just slightly off the track next to another Old Ghan
Railway steel bridge.

| Duff Creek Rail Bridge |
We ate in our cars as the
competition with the local flies was very fierce.

Lunch At Duff Creek Crossing
|
You see lots of strange things on
the Oodnadatta Track but we didn’t expect to come across a cyclist. But this one we did. The lady who runs Coward Springs Homestead
told us later, that it was not that uncommon along the track. Who’d have thought?
 |
| Oodnadatta Cyclist |
Passing the Coober Pedy turn off
signal the completion of the Oodnadatta Track.
It only took ten years…… (bit
like Colin’s associate diploma), but now we can say we’ve driven it in its entirety.
William Creek has changed much
since we were here last. Not sure if
it’s the time of year but it is so much busier.
The campground has expanded. More amenities provided, but just so
busy. Tonight was the Collingwood Sydney
game so we strolled across to the pub for dinner and drinks.
 |
| William Creek Sunset |
Mike
and Jan enjoyed goat curry whilst col savoured a kangaroo yiros and Sally the
fish.
