Jundah

Day 32
North west along the Diamantina Development Rd, Mike on the UHF singing along “it never rains on the Diamantina” except apparently today.

Stopping halfway to Windorah for a shot break, we came across a whole lot of Fairy Martin Swallow bird nests under the roof of picnic area.

More unfenced road. To think a few months ago this area was in the mists of a massive drought.  Now there are young calves everywhere along with extraordinary revegetation.

We were hoping to find a bakery or deli in Windorah for lunch so we crossed Cooper Creek yet again and made the small detour into Windorah. Besides reheated pies from the servo and a flash looking Solar Farm, there wasn’t much here on offer so we gave it a miss.

Our goal today was to travel to Stonehenge.  Not the ancient monument in England but a small pub midway between Windorah and Longreach.  We stopped in a small town on the way for a comfort break and after chatting with the local store owner, it was apparent that there was no accommodation in Stonehenge as tonight they were hosting a big country wedding.  Another strike for us.  So this is how we ended up staying in Jundah.

The van park in Jundah was quite full but Jan said trip adviser said there was a free camp at the back of the pub next door.  We walked in and spoke to the barman who said no worries, as long as you come in for a drink.  (Only if we have too)

A few drinks at the bar, we would have stayed all night to watch Ash Barty win the French Open be when we found out what time it was on locally, it was past our bed times.

On the way out of Jundah the nest morning, we called into the local hall where the town was host a charity market.  We all thought we would support them by buying breakfast and a quick shop.  Then it was onto Longreach to catch up with Lee and Johno.
