Lara Wetlands

Day 36, 37 & 38
This was our first visit to Lara Station Wetlands Camp and we’d been looking forward to it for weeks.   Reports on Jan’s interweb (thanks Jan) were favourable and Mike was keen to take in any aviarian species that might come our way.    Everyone was surprised that the first native wildlife to cross our path was a good size goanna who was definitely not camera shy.

We setup camp by the lagoon and prepared a camp fire ready to settle in for the evening.

We woke up the next morning to a glorious sunrise as our morning vista..

Another beautiful day in the Australian outback with wildlife in every direction.

During the afternoon, Col venture to the hot bore for a swim, at near 40o C even sally was reluctant to enter the water and after near fainting, he slumped off to the cold pool, some 30 degrees cooler for a proper swim.

That evening it was some easy campfire fare, a few bevies, a game of 500 then after sunset, an early night.

Our last day consisted of more visits from the local fauna.  This kookaburra was only more concerned with having his best side photographed then any foreseeable threat these humans posed.

The night was capped off with a camp oven stew??   (It was supposed to be curried chicken and beef but we all agreed it was closer to a stew, albeit not a very good one).  The damper was, however, superb and two of the artist commission to perform, were very entertaining.)

Another Good Turnout
In the morning, before leaving Lara Station, we had a visit from these oldish stockhorses.  We can only surmise, that since Lara Station has destocked all the cattle, these guys are out to pasture.
One in particular took a shine to Col.
