Noccundra

Day 28

Things started typically with a pre departure inspection of our rigs.  Col noticed that he was missing part of a tyre.  A chunk of rubber had been peeled off his right rear and knowing there was more rocks and dirt to come opted to replace it with a spare.

Finally moving on, we set off north along the Cameron Corner Road.  Our intention was to make it to Thargomindah for a couple of nights.
It was a good thing that Col changed his tyre because the road was very rough in places and hard on tyres.
Stopping along the Cameron Corner Road to replenish our fire wood, we came across this billabong.  Bore fed are as many lakes in this area.

Until finally, Col’s spare that had spent the last four years on the back of his car, let go.

Col’s Blown Tyre
Now carrying two shredded tyres and the only spare having a chunk of rubber missing, he was pleased to see the Noccundra - Warri Warri Gate road.  Compare to what we had been driving, this was a dirt freeway.
Time was fast running out, so we abandoned our plans to make Thargominda today and decided to stay at the Noccundra Hotel.  Upon reaching the pub we found out that there were no camping facilities there but the publican directed us to over the road where there was free camping on the banks of the Wilson River, and for a small donation, we could use the shower and toilets outside the pub.  So over the road we went and were blown away by this pristine patch of river.

Jan had spotted lamb shanks on the menu board so or evening was locked in.

This hotel also proved popular with the truckies.  A few came for dinner as well as other campers from across the road.

Before leaving the following morning, we were treated to a fly over by a pair of brolgas.  They landed on the bank across the river from our camp and preformed a dance for us to enjoy.
